Quite literally

In the Gallery Place metro on my way to teach auGDES200 (my pet name for it), I saw the On To Richmond logo I designed while at J H I on about a million pylons! How neat.

The pylons (designed by the nice folks at J H I) are meant to remind us of significant historic anniversaries during this very week, and encourage us to scoot on down to Ol’ Virginny to take in the historic sites & reflect on where we were only 149 years ago. There’s something very interesting to me about seeing the people in the metro rushing along, with history — quite literally — all around us. Today and every day, history to look back on, and history we’re living.

Productive procrastinating

I’ve been sorely needing to sit down and stamp up a bunch of cards, and today I finally took care of it — during a bout of “productive procrastinating,” which is my favorite kind. Do you do this too?

In related news, I’ve been continuing to have fun with Spoonflower. I recently uploaded a repeat pattern of my tiny droplets motif (seen here on the cards, and above in the header) — you can take a peek at it here. I’m awaiting a sample, and I’ll be sure to post again when I make my first project with it!

Some little things, some bigger things

20110329-112419.jpg

I’ve had my hands in some interesting things lately — some little things, some bigger things. I hope to share more soon, but in the meantime, here’s one of the little things: a linen produce bag I’ve been crocheting this past week. I’m sort of in love with it.

I got the pattern, basically, from The Purl Bee (I love them) and then I went off course, as I nearly always do when making things by hand. I can’t leave well enough alone. So here, I made the “holes” in the bag smaller, making the bag itself smaller, and I lengthened the handles so they can easily go over the shoulder. But then I went even further off course, and added smaller handles in the crooks of the larger handles.

Then, to be frank, I bought a bunch of fruit just so I could fill the bag and ogle it.

NO ANCHOVIES

I’ve been making and eating a heckuva lot of pizza lately. And documenting it at NO ANCHOVIES, my blog about vegan pizza.

Some kind of metaphor

I’m really into these colors, catching the light against the dark tabletop. They’re a bunch of antique salt cellars I found in Kilmarnock, Virginia, as well as some kind of metaphor for this time of year. I want the whole lot.

The backest of back burners.

I just placed my first order to Spoonflower and I think it may have been a life-changing moment.

My funny valentine.

I put together a “gift bucket” of his favorite beverages — from Rogue’s Mocha Porter to classic cola in a glass bottle, to a fancy carafe of chocolate almond milk (one of our lazy desserts). This was presented under a banner I stitched together for him; the side you can’t see is a little sweeter: “I ♥ you”.

I snapped this shot before he saw what the back says.

A heck of a lot.

Valentine’s Day always reminds me that I’m fond of a heck of a lot of people — not just my “official” Valentine. I made these cards for my etsy shop, so folks can share all the fun things they want to do with their friends & sweethearts, ASAP.
